Cobberdogs originated hybrid descendants of various types of working Labradoodles, and Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers. Cobberdogs combined with Australian Labradoodles of original lines are the progenitors of Australian Cobberdogs
Cobberdogs as hybrids between traditional Irish type wheatens and Labradoodles are rare because most breeders of traditional Irish Soft Coated Wheaten terriers do not allow their dogs to be crossed with Labradoodles
From 2009 to 2011 they were called Soft Coated Labradoodles
In 2011 their name was changed to Cobberdog to bring continuity to the emergent Australian Cobberdog breed, because many Soft Coated Labradoodles were included in the foundation stock of the Australian Cobberdog.
Cobberdogs are foundation of, but are distinctly different from Australian Cobberdogs in that they are primarily still hybrids and the focus of the breeders is to produce dogs that have a particular intelligence level, and not breed recognition.
